I remember those first days when Chat-GPT was just launched, and we were using it primarily to write our essays or assignments and pass the nights without any pressure. We thought that now we don’t have to worry about writing those 4000+ essays. Things were going as smoothly as butter until one of our professors gave us 0 out of 30 on a test. But he gave 30/30 to chat GPT. We were shocked to see “Chat-GPT ” written on our papers. Chat GPT can regenerate a new essay every time, so plagiarism or copying would not be an issue. When we asked our professor about this, he told us that there are some new tools that can detect AI-written content. Hearing this, our so-called fantasies died on that spot.
But every generated content is unique, right? The answer is “YES” but “NO” at the same time. Well, you see, there are some patterns which make the writings detectable by AI detectors. Let’s learn about those –
Perplexity
Usually, human-written content is highly perplexible, and AI-generated writing is less plexible. So, What is high and low perplexity? High perplexity means word adjusting is not good, and the next word is unexpected or does not sound good. Perplex means confused. So, higher perplexity can be thought of as word arrangements that do not sound good.
On the other hand, AI-generated content is less perplexing. It has a predictable word choice and uses words that usually come next. It is smooth and comfortable to read.
Burstiness
Burstiness means how ideas are distributed. AI-generated content usually contains a lot of ideas in a short section. It also presents many ideas in a straight form rather than a nice transition. On the other hand, Human writings carry emotions, and they can make emotional connections in their writing. They can deliver their words in sequence rather than just random information.
Repetitive Language & Formal Tone
AI contents tend to repeat its tone or language, which can be just detected by reading it. Also, it uses a more formal tone than a human usually uses in his writings. Those patterns are readily detectable in AI detectors.
Database connections
Some AI detectors have minimal/limited access to AI-generated content. They usually then compare the data and find its accuracy rate, which gives a result of how many parts are written by AI or humans.
We must remember that AI is growing faster than anything in human history, so those factors can change from day to day. These methods work together to create a magnificent system that helps us detect AI content.
We should also keep in mind that AI is evolving faster than any other things human created. So, It is a matter of time AI learns those factors and implements so that it sounds more humanly.
Nice blog. Informative.
